The importance of lesson
planning in a teacher candidate’s professional development.
I believe that lesson planning is
extremely important for all teachers, not only for a teacher candidate
preparation but also for teachers working for years in the system. I have learned that when a teacher dedicates
the time to plan their lesson the results in the performance of the students are
most likely to be outstanding. Another
factor that is really important is that by having a lesson plan in which the
students are kept on task throughout the whole English class the teacher is
diminishing any misbehavior among the students.
In other words the teacher is working upon excellence in classroom
management. I consider that a lesson
plan serves as a guide for the teachers to meet their objectives. Throughout my practice teaching experience, I
have always created a lesson plan for each day and I have obtained good
performance from my students. I believe
that lesson plans should be develop to reach all of the students needs. This year in my practice teaching group I
have both, students that represent a linguistic challenge and the students that
are below the grade level expectations. This means that I have had to develop lesson
plans where all of my students can benefit from them. I consider that if I would have not embraced
the lesson planning technique I will surely not be able to treat individual
differences in my English class.
Another important part of lesson planning is the reflection. Once the teacher writes their reflection
about the day, you are automatically thinking on how you can make a better plan
to treat specific topics. I believe that
developing my own lesson plans I have gained the knowledge in order to perform
with excellence in the teaching profession.
I have to admit it takes a lot of time to prepare a good lesson plan but
at the end of the semester you feel the satisfaction of being an outstanding
teacher.
